Iqbal Quadir Talk: The Power of the Mobile Phone to End Poverty
The UN recently released its 2007-2008 Information Economy report, which can be downloaded here. If you don’t have time to read all 386 pages of the new report, the BBC has briefly summed up it up. The results sound very similar to those in the papers we have been reading for class from previous years, especially the fact that the digital divide is still quite evident, with developing nations lagging behind wealthier countries. But the same themes emerge in this report:
(From BBC News) To make the most of the transformative potential of the net, mobiles and other technologies the UN report recommended that countries update cyber laws, intellectual property regulations, upgrade infrastructure and invest in training.
